Producing Quality
Hunting Dogs
That Will Also Be Your New Best Friend
We are a small hobby kennel located just south of
Holland, Michigan. We started breeding Labradors
when Brent's hunting partner, Otis (our original
chocolate Labrador), was slowing down and we wanted
to get a new puppy to eventually take his place.
We found that there were not very many quality Labradors
in this area, so we decided that we should start
breeding them.
When you come to our house, you
will be greeted by Otis as you come up the driveway.
He usually gets out of the way, but he is really
slowing up lately.
The Lab we have had the longest,
other than Otis, is Annie.
She is the queen of the kennel. She is a very athletic
dog. In fact, we had to put a screen on the top
of her 6' run because she kept jumping out when
we first took her home. Since she had a couple of
litters, she can’t quite get over the fence
anymore.
Our next dog is Seal.
She has a very impressive line of Certified Pointing
Labradors and Champions. Seal is sired by GMPR High
Sierra Jazz's Drifter MH. The pedigree does not
stop there either. There are 5 APLA GMPR in the
pedigree as well as many FC/AFC titled dogs with
AKC. She has such a sweet personality and is so
eager to please. You can't help but love her.
Tater
is one of our stud dogs. He was our "toilet
paper commercial" puppy - just look at his
picture on the puppy page! He is the cute white
ball of fur! His puppies look just like him when
he was a puppy. We got Tater from our friends at
Soggy
Bottom Labs. You may wonder where Tater has
gone if you come to our house. He is staying with
our good friend, Michelle, who so graciously housesits
for us anytime we need her.
Huey
is our future stud dog. He looks a lot like Tater.
Tater was good, but Huey has much better bloodlines.
Since our stud dog's bloodlines run through all
our puppies, we wanted the best and that is what
we got. Huey has both show and field champions in
his background. He is our idea of the perfect dog,
both with his bloodlines and his overall temperment.
He just what we want to pass on to our puppies.
Emma
came into our home in August of 2004. We have been
attending conformation classes with her and are
looking forward to a busy show season with her and
Tater. Emma’s father was at Westminster in
2004. She also has several champions in her background.
We co-own Emma with
Dragonfly Labradors.
Hanna
joined our family in December 2004. She is a real
sweetheart and so well behaved. There are several
champions in both her mother and father’’s
backgrounds - and she is quite a looker! She and
Tater should produce exceptionally stocky pups.
Leah
was born in the summer of 2005. She is from Cattail
Kennels in Indiana. Her father is Grand Master
Pointer Holy Smoke, one of the top pointing labs
in the country. She is back from training and is
doing a wonderful job at hunting. We plan to eventually
breed her to high quality pointing labs to get some
good hunting lines in our area. Some people are
afraid of a dog labeled "pointing lab."
We have found that, while they are bred to increase
the "pointing" quality some labs possess,
they come from the best hunting bloodlines and have
exceptional noses for waterfowl, as well as upland
hunting. We have never had a problem with our pointing
labs pointing ducks. Our dogs are almost exclusively
used for duck hunting. We will never own another
hunting dog that doesn’t have some "pointing"
blood in them. If you don’t want your lab
to point, just don’t train it to point. Please
don’t be scared of them. If you want to really
impress your hunting buddies, try taking a pointing
lab with you the next time you go out hunting. We
will gladly give you a demonstration of what they
can do. You will not be disappointed.
Gummy
Bear came to us in the Spring of 2006. We first
weren't too fond of the name she came with and were
thinking of trying to call her something else, but
once we got to know her, we found the name fit her
perfectly. You'll have to meet her to see what we
mean (and she is sweet as can be!)
Miley
is our newest chocolate. She is out of our Emma
and Liberty
Creek's Broad Ridge. We couldn't help but keep
one of the pups out of this wonderful breeding.
Our daughter is having a wonderful time with her.
Ethel
is the newest addition to our family. There are
hardly words to describe her. She has an outstanding
pedigree. She has the best of both worlds: multiple
field champions and pointing lab background. She
is trained to the max, performs multiple retrieves
including blind retrieves, and knows both whistle
and hand signals. Ethel has had a couple of litters
and she is now in retirement from breeding. She
is living the life of luxury in the house and you
can usually find her either watching television
with the kids or taking a nap on our bed.
We have recently been using Cocoa
as a stud for our chocolate and chocolate factored
blacks. He is a nice blocky male and does a bit
of duck hunting too. He also has the wonderful lab
personality. He belongs to our friends, Larry and
Julie, and he lives not too far from us. If you
are out to visit a puppy out of one of his litters,
we can gladly take you out to their house to visit
Cocoa.
If you would like to come out and
see our labs, just give us a call. We would be happy
to show you our dogs and what they can do.
